MARINE HARDWOOD FLOORING
Teak weighs in at 43 pounds per cubic foot, and up to 3.58 pounds
per board foot. Called the most decay-resistant wood in the world,
it still has a slight problem with some marine borer adhesion.
Teak grows in Thailand, the East Indies and Burma. The sapwood
can be white to brown. The grain runs straight and the wood texture
has a coarse or oily feel to it.
The wood can be brittle, and dulls cutting tools. It has common
uses for decking, salons, joinery and cabinet structures.
"Teak Hardwood" is available in a variety of colours,
used by boat manufacturers and is a popular "true wood"
It is the "most durable" hardwood that you could install
in our Ontario climate.

choose the colour that you would like for your new teak floor
before starting your project so that you order the correct teak
Staining" the teak will create the colour you want ...
or you can "varnish" the teak to create colour and
a shiny surface with better protection to the teak itself ...
and create some protection against discolouring the teak due
to accidental liquid spills. Teak dealers and/or installers
can give you the best advice for your personal application.
|We are only discussing
"teak" flooring here because in Ontario Canada other
kinds of hardwood flooring are not popular due to the climate
Other hardwoods installed in a boat would require very good humidity
control 24/7/365 to prevent the wood from expanding and "buckling".
Teak hardwood installed in a salt-water environment may not last
as well as it will in fresh water environments.
